I am thinking really hard (about every minute) about a 1B in Stainless Laminate, caliber 204 Ruger. Black talley rings and bases. Mac restorations putting black KG coat on the reciever and trigger guard not the action lever or falling block. Accurizer in the forearm, single set trigger, light wieght hammer. Scope will be a 6-18 or 6.5-20 Luepold matte black. I just traded off my 1B in 280 with super wood that shot factory ammo awesome. This is an action everyone should own and always have around. Looking for in put, cash and availibilty will occur about the same time, I was think about starting a parts bin.
This sounds like a pretty fun rifle to try out. I agree with you on the #1 - it really is an awesome rifle. I have one in .458 and it's a blast to shoot plus it looks good on the wall. When finances permit, I'd like to get another in a smaller caliber too (although it might be an agonizing choice between it and a Winchester 88 - I had one and made the mistake of selling it and REALLY want another one).

That sounds like rifle I would love to have! I have wanted a Ruger #1 for some time and will own one in the next couple of years. I'm thinking of going in the other direction and getting a 416 Rigby. If you do get this rifle you need to post some pictures. I'd love to see it.
Dont count on the Ruger B-1 to be a good shooter unless you have them worked over by a gunsmith. I have the Ruger B-1 in the 243 Win.and 25-06 Rem which I,m going to trade off.
Actually, the #1 isn't any harder than a bolt action - but everyone, when purchasing a bolt action, will run off and rebed it, check the forearm, rework the trigger, whereas most expect the #1 to shoot as is... Also, bolt action techniques won't work here, you need to look at other things. And some can be rather tricky. my #1 in .25-06 would refuse to shoot untill I'm running at about 98% of max. anything less jsut won't work... Very picky rifle, but I finally convinced her to perform. Some rifles are easier, but none is more satisfying than a single shot!
