New single shots from CZ???

Years ago, I bought a used T/C Contender, stainless, plastic stock/forend in .35 Remington for less than $300. I put a 1.5x5 Leupold on it.... then I forgot about it for several years until I saw an ad for Hornady Leverevolution ammo and tried it.

It handles amazingly well, kills deer-sized animals DRT out to 200 yards, satisfies my accuracy needs with 1" groups, takes down easily (but needs tweaking sometimes afterwards with scope settings), has a gunsmith-not-needed trigger adjustment and weighs less almost nothing. Barrels are interchangable from .17 to .45/70 and even a blackpowder option is available.

Looking at the criteria for stalking rifles, other than being ugly as hell, it fits most of the bill. It's kind of like riding a moped. Its fun as hell, but you don't want anyone to see you do it.

My point exactly. Light weight stalking rifles were intended for moderate cartridges like 7x57R. There will always be those that will chamber one for elephant cartridges but once they fire it once they'll think very carefully about pulling the trigger a second time.

None of my business, but why does it seem like only gun dealers and Big 3 automakers* try to do everything in their power to sell you anything but what you want?

Really, why limit one's customer to 30-bores and engraving with all the personalization of a dear-john letter from Western Union? The factory says you can get interchangeable barrels and one's choice of engraving on their Czech site, after all. And why 60 days to get the most vanilla order? Aren't they rolling off the line? Since we know that nothing takes more than 15 days to transit from Europe, it begs the question--do they need to change tooling to get this out? If they're changing tooling, why can't they give you what you want?

For me, if the quality were acceptable, I'd pay a genuine premium for the full stock model without engraving in say .25-06 with extra barrels in .223 and 20 gauge. OK, if I were not a rimless heretic, 7X65R and 5.6X50R Magnum with a 20 gauge. I'd even be glad to pay first so the importer is always in a cash-positive position.

It would be a huge value to me because I could hunt deer, predators, running rabbits, even fox at night here in Michigan with a .22 magnum chamber insert. Try getting that in a Merkel or Krieghoff without remortgaging the homestead.

But I can't do that with a .30-06 and I just can't make myself love yet another firearm with machine engraving.

Call me picky, but why sell a niche product with the M.O. that you can have any color you want as long as it's black?

*I say this as a Detroit guy now on his fourth Ford Taurus and an exquisitely ugly bottle-green Pontiac.

At least they are trying! That is the Czechs I mean. I have very little faith in the US big 3 (Browning, Remington, Winchester) and all the others (Ruger, Savage, . . .) to create anything that resembles a small compact, lightweight stalking rifle. Its all about greed. There is no doudt that we can create a black rifle that can peel a peach at 1500yds, but a stalking rifle? Nope, aint enough money in it.

The Czechs aren't the problem. They make the version I would like to buy. They even make versions I consider ill advised because they have customers who want them. Its the addle brained U.S. importer who has exactly ZERO feel for his market that is the problem.

By the way MichiganShooter, I understand that Blaser has an excellent and reliable rimless extractor for their break barrel K95. The rimmed extractor for the Effect looks fine but the rimless version of the Effect extractor looks like something a 5 year old with a hacksaw made. Look careful at the rimless Effect extractor before you decide to look for a .25-06 or .223.
