In one of my old Contender catalogs they say that the 22 Hornet was the most accurate caliber that thet offered. Is it still ranked high in accuracy compared to others?

I,ve had two over the years. The reason for two is because the first one shot so bad that it was all I could do to keep it on papper at 100 yards. I replaced it with a new 10" bull barrel and it shoots way better than I can. I shot a 1/4" group at 50 yards on one good day. DRSS NRA life AK Master Guide 124

No clue how it stacks up against some others in carbine length but the article you are referring too I believe was written about handgun length factory barrels. Much has changed since those days. I have a custom job in .204 Ruger carbine length that would be my first choice in a competitive shoot.

I have one in carbine length, 21 inches. I would not want to compete with it. I averages around an inch at 100 yards. I have tried lots and lots of load combinations and most average about the same.

Mine's an Encore. 40gr V Max. and 13 grs of Lil' Gun give me accuracy that even I can't believe.

Oh, by the way, that load is pushed by a CCI small (PISTOL) primer.

If memory serves me correctly the hornet was the round it was designed around.
