I'm looking into one of these either in the .243 or .25 for a mainly varmint/small game/fun gun. I know they shoot well, my buddy has one in .243, which is one of my pet calibers. But I never did own a 25-06 before, and am interested in giving it a try. I can get V-max bullets down to 75 grains, and Ballistic Tips at 85, so there moving along pretty good. The other thing I like is the .25 comes with a 26" barrel, which is a bonus. I like long barrels on varmint guns. The .243 is only 22". But I did love what a .243 55 grain Ballistic Tip at 3900 FPS did to gophers out of my old Winchester. What are some opinions? I may be heading out to pick one up this weekend. Thanks.

i genuinely love the little 243. was my 1st c-f rifle and is just a sweet little ctg to shoot. that being said, a 26" bbl will balance and look a lot better in a single shot and the 25-06 is a far more capable round. when that wildcat was born abt 80 or so yrs ago as the 25 neidner (or one of the incarnations of the neidner; i think there were several) it was intended to be primarily a varmint ctg as i recall (well, as i recall "reading"; i ain't that bloody old). you'll burn a little more powder, don't let anybody tell you recoil will be worse. it may be but 20% more of nothing is still nothing.
