Anyone have any experience with one? Considering purchasing one. It will end up being scoped and used for shooting small critters 75-100 yards away. Might consider other brands of single shots if they are reasonably accurate with a good trigger My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Have an 1885 in 270, in case you run into bigger critters :-)

I have one in 3006. Very nice rifle, one in a 22 mag would be great.

Would the 1885 be suitable for a lefty? Any noticeable cast to the stock or cheek piece? My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I just ordered one in 38-40 Partly because I have a Colt 38WCF and can reload ammo fast on the Dillon but also just as you said I think it will make a decent under 100yd game gun. And, of course, the kids will love shooting it too.

I had one in a hornet at one time..If I were to build one in a 22 Magnum, Id use a break open action like the Savage 219 rifle or shotgun, or about any SS that looked right. A Martini would be nice. However the best one Ive ever owned and Ive own two of them were the Rem. pump mod 61, they shot so damn well I could knock the head off a turkey at 100 yards if I could wait until he kept his head still..or shoot them in the lower back so as not to ruin the good meat. The win. lever actions were good 22 Magnums also..My present turkey rifle is a 5mm Rem bolt action a POS that shoots tiny little groups..but Im a bit off the subject so I would say the 1885 would make an excellent 22 magnum, but Id prefer a centerfire round, Perhaps a Hornet or K hornet. I believe that the low wall was first a cut down hi wall that emerged in 1887 later to become a production low wall with it's own designation. The first low walls ware small shank hi walls and when Winchester began production of the low wall they utilized the small shank diameter only. I have two in 25-20 SS and one in .22 long rifle.
