A different Ruger #1 question

If you were going to to buy a Ruger #1 NIB in a 25 06 to hunt mostly whitetail deer, with the occasional Mule deer and hog, which variation would you look for and why?

I kinda like the sporter just because it has the open sites so if my scope fails, I could still hunt, but I almost always carry 2 rifles on a hunting trip anyway.

Thanks

Dave

I like the #1B standard, with the 26" barrel. It sqeezes the most out of the 25-06 in a rifle basically the same length as a bolt action with a 22" barrel.

I just like the way the #1S looks but I'm not sure it comes in .25-06. I have (2) & really like hunting w/ them.

I think you would get best accuracy with a 1V. If you are not carrying it a lot, that would be my choice and they look better than the 1B. Of course the RSI looks best of all. Are you wedded to 25-06?

cowboy,
I'm not completely wedded to the 25 06, but if I am buying NIB, that is what I will have 'em order--if I find a good used one in 270 or 243, then I would give it some serious consideration...
