If you don't really need the rimfire capability of the G2, get an Encore. Yeah, it's bigger and heavier, but that's the beauty of it. You will have a much greater choice of calibers. Also, more weight, less recoil. Have one in pistol configuration, in .308. Can't be beat. Hope this helps

Yes, I shot one. Matter of fact I bought one. Out of the box the trigger was pretty sucky. I installed a Mike Bellm spring and did the smoothing per the tutorial that you can download from his site and now it's a shooter. I highly recommend it.
"WHEN" may I ask, did you purchase your G2 frame? Where I live in WA state, the new generation Contenders are unknown as local vendors haven't been able to get them yet. Thanks for any insight.

The question I asked is "WHEN" has anyone bought a G2 Contender. It does me no good to know 'where.' I'm not buying out of state nor through an FFL I don't know.

Hey, Cougar, no need to get uppity. To answer your question, we've had G2's in shops around here for several months. There's been a some issues with the fit of standard style barrels fitting on them however. By the way, Ed's reputation around here is spotless and he has many credible references, unlike you and the attitude.

Thanks slug for answering, and glad to know that Ed does good work and G2's are finally becoming available. As for me, my business and upity attitude, I'll keep 'em west of the continental divide.

I have owned a G2 carbine set for about 3 months. Totally different experience compared to the contender frame. The G2 trigger is slimmer, rounder, and smooth were as the contender has a wider surface. The shape of the trigger is not what I have a problem with. When you sqeeze the trigger on a contender you get a predictable crisp follow thru. On the G2 the trigger is spring loaded to jump forward back into place. I do not own a Encore but some say the encore trigger does the same thing. I plan on keeping the G2 for heavier calibers, but I perfer the trigger on the standard contender. I have zero complaits with improved G2 carbine butt stock and forend.
Cougar, it's been a while since I was online. I bought my G2 in Mid June this year - from a shop just north of Dayton, OH. A salesman at Fox Ridge Outfitters - owned by TC and located right in front of the plant - told me that they had backorders for tens of thousands of frames. Be persistent, you'll find one.
I have to say that the new G2 trigger is not as good as the original. The G2 trigger is just like the Encore. I am also looking for a synthetic stock for the G2. All I can find is walnut so far. Anyone out there who knows where I can find a synthetic stock?

Bought a brand new G2 carbine March 16th...for my sons birthday. Or an addition to my collection however you look at it. His is a .204 Ruger factory barrel/wood stock set that is the most accurate factory barrel I have ever worked with. The new G2 is a whole lot handier to work with and his has an excellent trigger on it. As good if not better than some of my original frames. Factory carbine stocks are far better on the G2 than the original Contender as they place your head in a better position for scope use. The G2 frame .....at least so far has worked with all of my other barrels I have tried on it...custom shop, factory , whatever.
