Has anyone heard anything more about the Farquharson that Ballard Arms is planning on making? Traditional construction, or updated with coil springs and such? Any rumors on release date?

I lost interest when they informed me that only finished guns would be sold, no actions. At the price they quoted a smart shopper could do much better on a REAL Gibbs. Just my viewpoint.

I'm curious about this too.

skb, What did they give as far as prices. I'm assuing in the 2500-3000 range.
Does anyone know if it will work with rimmed rounds only?

Wow! That is way out of line with the Ballard rifles I've seen before.

When the assclown that now owns the company bought them, they had Steve Garbe running the company, Ron Long running the shop, and were building a very high quality product at a slightly higher price than Shiloh. Some people buy a company that is running like a swiss watch, and then figure out ways to cheapen the product. Steve left, Ron left, Neal Rice left, and then assclown moved the facility to MI. Nobody from the Cody plant went with him as far as I know. He now offers a product that is not up to the Italian level of quality, poor to non-existent customer service (unless you are calling to order a rifle) and it appears that his warranty has a high customer deductible.
Avoid it like the plague.

When reading this link, please pay close attention to what Jim62 says. I agree with him completely although I still build them, albeit only for myself.

I recently looked at Ballard's new WI prices but never again. A $35 DST kicker spring was a mere $75! I refused to pay that much and so ended up making it myself in 2-3 hours. Actions of this nature are called 'cutting off one's nose to spite one's face' or 'swapping a turkey for a jaybird' but I absolutely refused to give them the ransom $ despite the PITA of having to make the spring myself.

Been hoping that the new Uberti/Pedersoli high wall DST parts would interchange but have no word yet.

There's a new SS action coming out of New Zealand but I have no details yet. Could be that it's a Farquharson type?
Regards, Joe

Thanks for the info. This is all very disappointing. I had no idea that Ballard had slipped like this or that they had even moved.
Back a couple years ago the now defunct Waffenfabrik Hein claimed that they would make a Farquharson and that fell through. Now this from crap from Ballard. I guess we can only hope that a company will someday build a high quality, Farq again.
