Has anyone have any idea on a reduced 300 win mag load for a very light weight Kreighoff single shot rifle the recoil is at the very least brutal with even federal 150 grain loads. I shoot a 375 double that has lighter recoil, I am looking for something like a 30-06 155 gr load can't find anything in any manual that I have on hand and on line. I know that Remington sells reduced recoil ammunition for the 300 Win mag at 2650 with 150 gr bullet I would like a hand load in that area for general usage here in KS on deer, plus the recoil will reduced somewhat when I have mounted a set of scope mounts and a scope. Right now the rifle with a steel receiver weighs only 6.50 pounds.

A lady friend of mine bought a .300 win mag once because it was a good deal and she wanted to upgrade her hunting rifle. After the first shot she realized it was a mistake since she was just a tiny little lady and the recoil was more than she had bargened for.

I wish I could remember the load but basicly I just found the lightest load for a 150 gr. bullet that was in my reloading manuels and went with that. It made a hudge differance.

In your case probably the only cure would be to sell me the Kreighoff, I'm such a nice guy I'll take all the abuse from that rifle and spare you the pain. Just kidding I can't afford to pay attention at the moment. If it's still hurting in a few months doc Bob says call back I might be able to afford it then.

thanks but I have been calling around and I plan to have an adjustable cheek piece installed(yes I know it lowers its value and looks)I also plan to have an extra higher soft touch comb made to use with the scope mounts I am having done, I will be able to replace the original cut out stock piece when it is installed you will hardly know its been modified, plus I don't sell guns if it don't work I will have restocked, or get used to having it hurt me Big Grin

I light loaded some 300 Win Mag's for one of my rifles to hunt with on my deer lease, as I did not need a full house 300 Mag to shoot a deer under 100 yards, but wanted to hunt with the rifle.

Start with a 180gr bullet and 47 to 50 gr of IMR 3031.

47gr gives 30/40 ballistics @2300fps.

Have you tried the reduced loads with H4895? You can go to Hodgden's website and get all the data. I don't know if its available for the 300Mag but it's worth a look.
Seems like it is 60% of a max load but obviously you'll want to check it out.

RNB, Did any deer cross your path? I noticed the KS connection. Lots of does went down here in Marion Co. but no Big Boys that I'm aware of.

We saw about 250 deer during the rifle season the largest deer shot off our place was a 12 point buck of about 260 pounds taken by my son. In total we shot 6 deer mostly does to try and reduce the deer population some what. It should be noted at a 375 H&H works great on deer if you don't mind the lip service of my some what friends. Here we have way too may deer and not enough deer shooters.

I've shot a few deer with .375. Don't let those guys give you the lip service I'll bet most of them never shot a .375.

They can give me all the lip service they want but it did less damage that the Berger bullets I used on the others.
