What are the different brands/models of single-shot rifles with mannlicher stocks? I have a fascination with them, and would like to purchase one in the near future....

The only two I currently know of are the CZ Brno Effect FS and the Blaser K 95 Stutzen. Obviously, I would love to buy a K 95....but at roughly $8,000....I just can't.

The Brno looks like a decent rifle...

Any suggestions??

Merkel K-1 is a nice little rifle at considerably less than a Blaser K-95. Also, you should be able to get a K-95 for much less than $8K, unless you want an Attache' model or above. I think Prestige models are $5K or so. The Ruger RSI is an option, although they usually have pretty plain wood. Perhaps a custom-stocked RSI could be found at a reasonable price. The Luxus Model 11 is $2,995, but I understand now that they have a less-expensive model, as well as a higher-end Custom Grade.

You might find a used K-95 Stutzen for a bit less than that, but I doubt it. They are wonderful little rifles, I own the prototype with the straight stock in 6.5x55SE and it is a sub .5moa gun.

You can't go wrong with the K95. I have 3 barrels, and the rifle is fantastic. Highly reccommend it.

You could also get a Encore or Contender fitted with a mannlicher stock.

Another option would be to buy a TCR 87 and a couple barrels. Then have mannlicher stocks fit to it.

Krieghoff also makes a single shot rifle, and it is about $10,000 in the states.

A dakota model 10 action would be about $3000. If you went cheap and just bought a round barrel and had control mounts fitted to the barrel you could probably build the whole gun for $6000.

Hard to beat a Ruger $1 International for $1300.

If money is no object a Hagn or Heeren built custom single shot would be tops on my list.

The wife and I both shoot Merkel K1/K3 single shots and we love them. The Merkel K1/K3 with the mannlicher stock is nice.

I'm dying for one of those in the Jagd Stutzen. Care to elaborate as to pros and cons.

The late Eric Ching (you can find and archive of his articles here; http://www.blaserpro.com/chingarticles.php) loved the Merkel single shots. He had one in 7x57r that he killed many a deer with. The only difference he saw between the Merkel and the Blaser was the Merkel used a more traditional scope mount. I like the Blaser mount better. The K1/K3 and K95 are both fine guns and you will be happy with your choice.

I have a Blaser K 95 Stutzen in 308 WCF.

It is one of the most accurate hunting rifles I have ever fired.

It is light weight, slim and trim, and perfectly balanced. It is very comfortable to shoot, and carry.

And I really like the fact that it is very easily taken down without tools.

Also since I hunt with doubles quite a bit, the break open action, is very user friendly for me.

Well after years of looking and lusting I finally dropped the hammer. Should have an unfired Merkel K1 Jagd Stutzen chambered in 7mm-08 in my grubby paws within the next ten days.
