Looking for info on the best place(s) to buy Ruger #1's. What should the price ranger be for standard cartridges like 270win, 30-06, 308, etc...

I can’t tell you were the best place to buy a No. 1 is. Most of the shops around here don’t stock No. 1s any more. They’ll order them for you but they don’t stock them. I had to order the last one I bought.

I have seen a few used ones in the last month. One was a 30-06 1B in fair shape for $650.00 with a scope. The second one I saw was a 45/70 1S in great shape with the red recoil pad for $750.00 without a scope.

The one I ordered 3 years ago was the RSI model for $717.00. It had an MSRP of around $950.

The MSRP is $1100 + these days for any model. They’re not getting cheaper as time goes on.

Gun shows are always a good bet also. I picked up a .458 for $350 and a nice .300 WinMag for $375 in the last year of so. Try to find a dealer or individual that is tired of lugging it around - they aren't the most popular rifle out there. I've also gotten a couple of good deals off GunBroker but figure in the FFL fee and shipping.

The early guns are nicer finished and seem to have more character to me and many others hence the higher prices. Try to find a early no prefix gun i.e. no 130-, 131- etc. in front of the serial no. and note the softer finish and better wood to metal fit. The triggers are also better in the early guns I understand. Add an extra $!00 or more for an early gun in standard calibers.

Have fun! The Ruger No. 1 is a true classic and probably the only rifle made in the last 50 years that shows real character and earns my admiration.

It seems to me that Ruger only runs certain calibers in certain years. They have really limited the nymber of calibers that they are producing. The only thing That I can reccomend is to find a dealer that is willing to order one for you; it will probalby have to be backordered. Good luck!
