I have a choice to buy two hard to find contender barrels a 357 maxium or a 375 winchester. They are both carbine barrels and both hard to find.I was wondering if any one knew when TC made carbine barels in these two calibers.I already have a 375jdj carbine barrel but loading for it is a pain in the butt forming cases.I have a 357 maxium pistol and a winchester big bore 94 in the 375 win. Will the contender handle the same loads as the big bore 94?What kind of speed will a 180 gr hornady xtp bullet be going out of a 23" barrel loaded with aa1680.I have had good luck with this powder in both the 375 win and the 357 maxium.
I have a VVCG .357 max carbine barrel 21" SS. It is far and away the most fun plinking, medium game rifle I have ever owned. My load of chloice is a healthy dose of AA1680 behind a Sierra 200 gr. RN at 2000fps lit with a BR-4 primer....also like 180 gr. SSP Hornady with the same powder and primer at nearly 2200 fps. We take along a cleaning rod and a few patches and shoot .38 specials, .357 mags out of mine never had any problems.

I am leaning towards the 357 maxium carbine barrel.I passed on a 357 maxium handy rifle a few years back and wish I had gotten it.I mostly want it to introduce young and women shooters into shooting.I usually start with 22lr then go to mini 14 in 223.I like a single shot in rifles best of all in new shooters.I just hope that Remington does not ever stop making 357 maxium cases.I dont think anyone else has the equipment to make them. They are drawn from 223 brass I was told.I have shot alot of 357 maxium in my Dan wesson 357 maxium.I almost tried to have a Browning model 92 in 357 mag converted to 357 maxium.I have two Winchesters in 375 win.I already have the 375 jdj in the contender carbine. Its not that bad to shoot.I just wish there was cheap factory brass.I hate forming brass alot of better things to do with my time.
That was originally my only concern ....getting brass for my max. When I had the chance I bought all I will ever need and will never wonder about it. I am sure that Starline could make the brass....they make .357 mag and .360 DW....there would have to be a demand to get them to do it tho.

Both these barrels are listed as in stock in my newest T/C-Fox Ridge catalog....235-255 bucks for blue...a little more for stainless.
I have a max in the Handi Rifle and like it very well. It is not that far behind the 35 rem in performance and uses a lot less powder to get there. I have 10 and 14 inch barrels as well.

What have you shot with the 357 max.I have shot a zillion rounds through my pistol but none at game.My Dan Wesson Supuer mag is too dang heavy to tote along with a rifle.I like Hornady 180 gr xtp bullets.I have a bunch of the 150 gr remington .358 bullets that they use to load for 35 rem.I thought they might work good in a carbine 357 max.Its hard to use these smaller calibers also.I have been using a 338 win mag for deer the last 25 years.I think I might try to use my 375 jdj Contender for deer with either 220 gr hornady or the 225 gr spiral point.
