.......Hey guys, one of the Shooters.com newbies running around checking out the various boards. Figured I'd post some here about this rifle. Several years ago Navy Arms had these pulled Greener actions for $89 so I bought a few. One day, looking through a GPC mailer included with an order they had Douglas 44 cal barrel blanks on sale for $35 a pop.

These were 26" long by 1.25" in diameter. Had to order one up as it seemed an outrageous good buy, even if the twist was a bit tight at 14" for the .444. The wood came from Reinhardt Fajen before Midway screwed up the deal. Here's the whole rifle:

Here's the lever treatment:
 -
The grip was partially inletted to shape and dampened slightly with water. Then the lever was heated and pulled down sharply against the pistol grip. This formed the lever to the shape of the grip and marked the wood for final inletting.

This is the rear sight sight setup. Not a real good photo. Gives you an idea of the side attaching plate and how it rotates down against the wrist.

 -
This is the sight rotated up to use. The sight itself is obvious where it came from :-). It was modified to fit the base I made. It sets in a piece of 1/2" tool steel that had a .250" slot milled lengthwise. A threaded rod with a knob can be turned to move the sight itself back and forth for windage adjustment.

On top of the base, just ahead of where the crossarm is spigoted you can see a rounded section? This has been drilled and taped back into the hole where the crossarm fits. Into this hole is fitted a spring which powers a ball bearing. This bears against 2 reliefs in the crossarm and retains it in the up or down position. The this hole is closed with a sockethead screw, which can be screwed in or out to apply pressure.

I really should have used something besides a steel buttplate! It hurts :-)
