I've got the prettiest original Stevens Model 44 you are likely to find in .25 rf. Octagon barrel, better than 95% condition. Case colors faded on lever but bright on action and on cresent buttplate. Bore in good shape if you can find ammo. I'm looking for a swap for a quality singleshot in a more shootable caliber, preferably a cast bullet cartridge.

DJ If you haven't got any promising responses there's a few other places that you might ask the question. If fact, I understand that many rebarrel to 22 RF. http://groups.msn.com/BPCR http://groups.msn.com/Schuetzen http://talk.shooters.com/room_14/topics.cfm http://talk.shooters.com/room_54/May312003.cfm good luck.

Thanks, Jeff, but I'm in no hurry. I might end up adding a barrel since it's a takedown.

DJ It seems to me that rechambering to 25-20 with an appropriate modification to the block should work. I believe that the 25-20 would not stress the action unduly. jeff

Jeff, Bore is .251. Were this just a shooter, I'd have sleeved it to .25-20, but this one is just too nice to alter. Either I'll find it a nice home with a collector who will cherish it or I'll keep it as is. I've located a couple of boxes of shells if I really get antsy.

DJ One alternative is to chat with Lee Shaver at http://www.egunsmith.com/ to see what it might cost to get that rifle shooting. I've seen shilen and douglas barrel blanks on eBay for about $100 in diferent calibers. Another possibility (long shot) is eBay, every once and a while Stevens 44 barrels show up and prices have been reasonable at $70-145. jeff
