Go to search & type in Ruger #1, about a billion threads will come up. Or best bet is to call John Lewis @ Carolina Precision Rifles, Jackson S.C. He is #1 expert. He's getting my #1KB1 next month to work his magic on.
I have the same model, and the manual that comes with it explains how to adjust the ejector. Ruger will send you one if you don't have it. The factory trigger can't be adjusted so I replaced mine with a Moyers trigger, and it works just fine. I'm still working on it to get acceptable accuracy. I guess some Rugers shoot well and some don't.
The No. 1's and one No. 3 I bought in the 60's and 70's all have good, easily adjustable triggers. But the one I got in 1996 is terrible, and can't be adjusted for sour apples. I took it to a good 'smith, and the best he could do was 4#, and couldn't get all the overtravel out of it!! I think an aftermarket trigger is the only answer for new No. 1's!!
A friend of mine bought an aftermarket single set trigger for his #1 and is stuck on the installation. He is a very good toolmaker but is symied on this project and it has been sitting now for a year. At the rate he is going on it the rifle may never get finished.
We've found over the years, that we can get as good results out of the Ruger factory trigger as we can the Moyer's. Usually with less trouble. Sometimes the Moyer's is a snap to install. Most of the time not. So, for now, all we use is the factory trigger and the Kepplinger single set, which is a wonderful trigger. We are working with someone on a machined steel version of the old-style #1 trigger. Also, in the works is a replacement quarter-rib for the #1B for the use of Leupold rings and a replacement block for converting #1s to rimfire. My phone # is 803-827-2069.
Shortmag - that is my shop #. If I don't answer right away, I might be on one of the machines. Talk into the answering machine and leave your #. I don't have a secretary and can't answer the phone all of the time. The best time to cal is usually in the afternoon.
