I've purchased a few barrels from Steve at Virgin Valley Custom Guns. Here's the result from a 243 Winchester Barrel I bought from them. Here's a 5 shot group, shot at 100 meters on a cement bench with a 10x scope. http://www.hunt101.com/img/139318.JPG http://www.hunt101.com/img/139319.JPG

CK, Very nice! I'm thinking a lot about getting a 26" barrel in 6mm-284. What length of barrel did you go with? I'm trying to decide if a 26" barrel in varmint would be too heavy? I can't think it weighs much more than my 26" 50 cal. blackpowder barrel? laduckkiller

Thank you. VVCG is only gunsmith shop I would use for Encore or bolt gun. I had them put together another barrel in the 338 RUM with a 26 inch (Shilen) barrel with a JP muzzle break. On the bench the with JP break the rifle recoils like a light 308 Win on the bench. I've dropped the idea of detachable Warne rings with the 338 RUM. Just too much of chance of things letting loose. Here's picture of 338 RUM with the JP break less the scope.

Oh, back to your question. The barrel length is 24 inches with 243. It's a Shilen also. I almost had the idea of selling this whole set up. Crazy idea!

Nice!!! 99% of everything I read speaks very highly of VVCG. I'm 95% sure on the caliber, just trying to decide the little things like barrle contour and how much else I want to do. I'm thinking 26" varmint, fluted (6), and maybe just sending them my frame for a trigger job and a forend to match the laminate buttstock. Just like with that nice deer standing in front of you...you want to pull the trigger, but got to think about it a little more! Thanks-Glad to hear more good stuff about VVCG!
