What sort of recoil pads do you fellows like for your No. 1s in the hard kickers? I have had No. 1s in .375, .416 Rigby and .458, and had a Decelerator put on the latter. Seemed like it wasn't too bad. But now I am considering a .458 Lott, which by all accounts (or at least Ray's) is near the edge for most folks in terms of recoil, and I don't mind saying I'm not recoil proof. Figure if I go this route (instead of a CZ) I will work up to it with cheap Rem. 405s at lower velocities. But any advice on tweaks short of restocking would be appreciated.

I have a Limbsaver on my .45/70, which develops 57 ft/lb of recoil with my 400-grain Barnes Original semispitzer load. It has helped a lot vs the Ruger pad.

Just put a Decelator on my #1 Lott. Will post Sunday. Hog Killer has worked up some good loads
for the 405 Rem bullet. They are not bad at all.
I have some Factory 500's i will shoot sat or sun. I love my #1

Thanks guys. I'm not sure what I'm going to get -- considering a CZ, too -- but I have a real fondness for the No. 1, and go back and forth between another Rigby, a "little bitty" .405 or a Lott.
Just gotta have a big bore again.

Shot the Lott with full factory 500's and the
decelator pad was good. Shot 15 or so rds and was happy with it.

I use a slip on leather type, action eze or kick eze Has about 1/2" rubber pad inside. Leather on buttplate area wraps around to increase width of pad which helps to increase surface area.

I have a Decelerator on my Lott as well as an additional half pound of weight added to the butt which improves balance and helps absorb some of the recoil. I think my #1 has less noticable recoil than my ZKK602, also chambered in Lott.

I have a limbsaver on my 375 No. 1 -- really quite happy with it -- kicks less than my 1895 with a pachmeyer shooting 540 gr. Garretts.

Try inserting a Mercury filled recoil suppressor in the bolt hole of the butt stock. I have a 16 oz. one installed in my #1 H in .416 Rigby, along with a Limbsaver recoil pad. It's now a pussycat to shoot. Go to the following web site for info on Mercury recoil suppressors. www.mercuryrecoil.com

My No. 1's in 45-70, 375 H&H, and 458 Win all wear Pachmayr Decelerator pads and have had 16 oz. mercury tubes installed in the butt stock. The mercury tubes were installed mainly to improve the balance of the rifles which originally felt too barrel heavy to me. Easy on the shoulder even with heavy loads.
