I finally got an encore rifle but no rifle barrels as of yet except a muzzle loader barrel.I am thinking of a 26"stainless or longer in 264 Win Mag barrel,a 416 rem mag if its possible.I was told the factory wood stock will not hold up.A 250 Savage barrel.I wanted one in Contender but everyone says no way.I dont know if the will fit but will the Remington ultra mags work for custom encore barrels.I was thinking of a 338 ultra mag or something.Who is the best custom barrel maker. How good are the ones from T/C custom shop?

I have 2 Fox Ridge Barrels. Both have chambers throats that are longer than they need to be. My .350 Rem Mag barrel has to be loaded longer than a 35 Whelen to get good accuracy. I sent this barrel back and Fox Ridge told me everything was in spec to them and sent it back. Both barrels hold under 1" accuracy with handloads but spray bad with any factory load.

I have kept both barrels as T/C would do nothing to fix them and I found decent loads for them but I will not order from them again.

My next order will probably be from Match Grade Machine. Sean

I am in your shoes having bought a 50cal SS Encore. I love the way it holds the primers and they can't fall out.

I told my friend the other day I am waiting for TC to come out with a factory .460 rifle barrel. After reading posts from a lot of folks I am not sure I would buy any barrel in a rifle cartridge such as 308, 243, 22-250 without going custom. It is too bad that TC or there custom shop can't get it together they have a slick system if they only were more into Quality Control.

Try OTT, http://www.ottllc.com/, though not cheap, they will use any blank you desire, and cut the chamber to your spec.
There is a lot more info on them here, http://specialtypistols.infopop.cc/groupee/forums/a/frm/f/3436077864
Also David White, http://www.precisionrifleworks.net , can use any Encore barrel you have and stub in any barrel blank you want and chamber it for most rounds.
It's still not cheap, but niether are Krieger barrel blanks.

Mike at OTT does a super job on barrels and can cut a truly custom chamber. I have 2 barrels from him.
Dave VanHorn also does a fantastic job (http://www.mygunroom.com/DVGunshop)
I also have 2 of his barrels now
Fred at Bullberry does good work, I have 2 of his barrels.
SSK does good work but expensive. I have 1 of his barrels.
Mike Bellm is the T/C Guru.
David White does T/C work.
As mutwagn said go to Speciality Pistols and you can find addy's for all the ones listed.
My 2 favorites are OTT and Dave VanHorn.

Why is it that any web address that I had or someone else posts for OTT does not work? I have been trying to find their site for two weeks now. At one time I had an MBM Co. address for them that doesn't work either. Is it me or them? Sean

Never mind, I got it. The "," in mutwagn's URL threw me. My other links were just old I guess. Sean

My appologies, I left a comma in the URL that shouldn't have been there.
Glad you got to OTTs site.

There's also http://www.matchgrademachine.com

Some of the top guys from the former Virgin Valley Custom Guns started it up, and I have one of their Contender barrels, a 24" in .25x30-30 IMP. I've only had it a short while, but I've found a hunting load with which it averages in the upper .3s (and that is an average of 9 three-shot groups at 100 yards).

And, the barrel was in existing inventory (no waiting!) and was only $300 -- a steal in my opinion. I've had Bellm, Bullberry, Van Horn, SSK, Virgin Valley and Ingram (did I miss anyone???) and had no problems with any of them. TC factory barrels and the TC Custom Shop (aka Fox Ridge Outfitters)...well, they are another story. Some are OK; others are horrible. There is no difference in factory standard and TC custom shop other than the availability of additional chamberings and finishes.

I got a 416 Rigby from Cabelas for my Encore. Cabelas is the only one with it and it is the same cost as all the other barrels. I love mine and took a 1800lb Water Buffalo with it. Big Grin

I just picked up my first encore as well. was looking for a "starter" for granddaughter and wound up with a ss w/7'08. I have some factory federal HE 140gr TBBC. Has anyone shot this in their encore. What were your results. Yeah, granddaughter will not begin with this barrel but hey I am going to have some fun until the 22-250 barrel comes along.

DGR, I have one rechamber and 2 barrels from Mike at OTT including a 416 Rem Mag. Accuracy is spooky-no other way to say it.
Also have a 309 JDJ barrel from SSK. Good stuff.

DGR, here's a pic. Recoil is nice with the brake (much less than the Ruger #1 that I had). Stock is my own and the barrel is now fluted-the pic is old.
