I recently read a blurb somewhere about reproductions of the 1878 Sharps Borchard. Someone in New Mexico is making them. I always thought the originals looked beautiful. Does anyone have any info on these. Are they accurate enough for long range competition? The in-line fireing pin seems like it might give it an edge. I know that this model doesn't carry the romance of the 1874. Can some one please provide some info? Matt FISH!! I have never seen one of the Story guns but they are supposed to have most parts interchangeable with the originals. There was a very good article in Rifle Shooter a couple of years ago about the original Borchardt and the Story reproduction. I have talked to Al Story several times. He seems very knowledgeable and is very helpful. He will chamber almost any rimmed cartridge you could want. I was getting ready to order one when I found an original custom Borchardt in 219 Donaldson Wasp that I couldn't resist.

Have some patience, Shiloh Rifle will be introducing their Borchardt in 2006; and at a working mans price. Story B's are nice, but over $4K. The Shiloh will start at $1700 or thereabouts. regards, Rich

Idaho Sharpshooter, Any idea what cartridges they will chamber the Borchardt for? I checked their website and didn't see any information about the Borchardt yet.

I honestly don't know the maker of the gun, I wish I did. I bought it from the original owner and he could not remember the name of the company that made it, only that it was made while he was living in Dallas Texas in the early 60s. I think it is a beautiful gun with extremely nice engraving and absolutely beautiful feather crotch walnut. If you want to see a couple of pictures send me your email address and I will send them to you. I do not have anyway to post on this site. I am not familiar with Luft so don't know what his work is like.

Shiloh Rifle will be introducing their Borchardt in 2006 Shiloh has a superb reputation, but their Borchardt has been "in the works" for years. I've read Story is so back-logged with orders he's stopped advertising, to allow himself to catch up, and word of mouth is keeping the pipeline full. He's certainly worth a phone call. I hope to be able to stop by his shop next month, schedules permitting.

High Wall Fan, I have a Luft Borchardt, .280 Remington, as you can imagine many action alterations including a tang safety. Also have a long range paneled action rebarreled by them to .450-120-550. All work super quality.

vigillinus, Would be interested in swapping some photos with you. Would love to see a couple of your Sharps. Wish I knew who the gunsmith was on mine, beautiful job of wood, metal and engraving. The guy I got it from couldn't remember but he was in his late 80s and he said this was his last and best rifle. Didn't realize the Luft's were from spokane until High Wall fan filled me in. My email is gverbrugge@comcast.net Gary

Both out on loan to Russ Gilmore of Rifled Arms Historical Ass'n who has a machinist friend from upstate NY who is making a 7/8 scale S/B, has six in the works now, wanted the long range to get the panel cuts properly scaled and the Luft to see what crazy things can be done with an S/B. Russ is at 845-895-2987 if you want to find out about this nutso project. He is not on the net and says, please G-d, he never will be.
