Anyone have experience installing one of these? Is it a true drop in part?

Very close. I had to file mine a bit. This is not an intimidating install.

I installed the Trop safety on 2 of the #1's I have. An easy installation as Matt stated. May require a little fitting. A very nice improvement over the factory safety.

OK, another question... is it gloss or matte finish?

I don't recall, but I think gloss.

Didn't have to file at all but did a lot of jiggling to get it in. Of coarse I'm ham fingered. Neat installation and doesn't look bad either.

I didn't have the third hand I needed so off to the gunsmith. Cost me $25 but it saved my blood pressure. If you are not good with your hands, good luck!
