I just bought a 375 jdj in a 23" carbine barrel.I need some loading data and what bullet works good in it.I have had super accuracy in my 375 win with 235 gr speer bullets. Will it work good in the 375 jdj?I am buying a folding stock so that it will fit in my pack good hope it works good.I am going with Weaver bases and burris Signature rings they held my 416 rem mag 1600 times. Is the 235 gr speer bullet the one I want to use on moose and bears?

Well here are some of my thoughts. The folding stock might be interesting if you are running full power loads, recoil is hefty and the folding stocks I've seen don't look as if they have been made to handle heavy recoil. From what I have gathered the 235 Speer is looked down upon by the JDJ crowd and I have heard on several occassions that it is too hard to expand at JDJ velocities, but that was probably out of a 14" pistol barrel.

The 270 Hornady is the traditional favorite, and recently I have been hearing positive reviews of the 225 Hornady SP, as it was designed essentially for .375 JDJ carbine velocity. For moose and bears 9 out of ten folks will tell you to use the 270 Hornady. I personally have been shooting 260gr. Nosler Accubonds, but have yet to shoot anything with the .375 so all of my info is purely speculation. I can push them a little faster, they fly a little flatter and they are supposed to expand well at lower velocities than the Hornady.

I have one of the Choate folders for the Contender and have used it with the 10mm Auto and .30 Herrett cartridges. I don't think many people would consider either of these cartridges to be hard kickers. The main (I think ONLY) thing the folder has going for it is compactness. Although well made, sturdy and capable of handling anything that can be fired in the Contender, it simply is not suited to day to day use with the Contender. I don't like having to take my hand off the grip or forearm to cock the gun. I still have one of the stocks though so I suppose you could mark me down as conflicted about it... I don't like the thumbhole stocks for the same reason.

As to loads, well I don't have a .375 JDJ (yet). My .38-55 with 255 gr. Barnes works well at only about 1790 fps MV.

Yep I wanted the folding stock to put it in my back pack.I also carry 454 along for insurance.Alaska has alot of rain and wood will just ruin.I was wanting stainless 375 jdj barrel.I have not paid for the barrel yet I was calling to see how long the wait was on a custon Fox River or Brown stainless 375 win barrel. That 235 gr speer sure is accurate through. It should expand on a moose shoulder.I think 338 jdj on 444 case would be a nice thing in a carbine.I am looking into 416 jdj but was told it would not work on contender frame. If I am in the thickets my 416 rem mag that weighs 8.5 pounds scope and all is the ticket!
