That was one of the calibers I was thinks about, because of the barrel contour and the stock the complete rifle will weigh in at about 8.5 pounds.

7x65R is also a good candidate for another factory cartridge. An absolutely splendid single-shot wildcat in that rifle-weight range would be the 338-74KT or, if you hafta have a factory cartridge, the 338 Win Mag is one of the best killers ever.
Regards, Joe

2x on the 9.3x74R (mine is great)

and 7x65R is where I'm going next with my single shot (Encore) . . . just bought a reamer for it, and will be ordering the barrel so that it is ready next fall.

The .358 Shooting Times Alaskan (STA) is a SUPER cartridge. FWIW, you could use your .357 pistol bullets in it for plinking and varmint shooting.

My first choice would be a Hagn action but you allready have one of those.

What are the chances of finding a Heeren action. Not sure of the spelling of that but they sure are nice.

Caliber has a lot more to do with what your useing it for than anything and you are the only one here who knows what your intentions are with this rifle

Haveing said that I'll still through out my suggestion for a sexy little singleshot cartridge. 6.5x57R. mine worked real well on the one deer I shot with it.

Please see my response on the Reloading forum, this site. Performance is very similar to the 338 Win Mag and I list several article sources.
Good luck on your build, Joe

Still have not said what you want to use this rifle for...I have a project being set up for a 6.5x55. Not a Hall acton but on a Ruger #1.

I have no fixed idea what I am going to use the rifle for at this point, I am just filling in the holes by a caliber I don't have on hand. The weight of the finished rifle(8.5 pounds) leads me believe that I should use a larger caliber that 6.5mm, 7mm, you can see I have way to many 30 calibers now, I plan to take the rifle if heavy enought caliber to Africa in 2012 on plains game and in 2011 to New Zealand to hunt red stag I have been looking at the 338-74 Keith only problem no factory ammo if my ammo is lost in shippment. But on paper it looks very good and not hard to reload for.

Great idea but the action frame will not handle a caliber larger that 375 H&H
