Where can I get some load data for the 38-55 with 265 grain cast gas check bullets and RL 7 powder. I am using a modern falling block rifle. Thanks NRA Patron member

One thing that might help you is to slug your rifle and find out the actual size of the bore. I have and shoot a Model 94 Winchester and the best results I have are with .377 diameter bullets. Fron what I have read the bore diameter with a 38-55 can range from .375 up to .380. Even the rocks don't last forever.

According to the RCBS Cast Bullet Manual. RCBS bullet weights are based on 100% linotype. W. W. or Lyman No. 2 would make a heavier bullet. I guess I should prove that those loads are for a 38-55. Crazyhorse is right, you may want to make a casing.

Did you buy one of those new Lyman baby Sharps?

I'm not familiar with the action strength of your particular rifle, but being a modern falling block I'd think it's pretty stout, I use Lyman 48th RL7 375 Win data in my H&R 38-55 Target, both jacketed and gas checked cast, but with .379" or bigger bullets.

Very nice. That takes the mystery out of the bore size too, they know what it is.
