this fancified ruger #1 originally has the factory 243 barrel on it. jim kobe re barreled it in a half octagon half round design and rechambered it in 300 H&H. the results speak for themselves. exceptionally well done is the step where round goes to octagon, even if he did work his little fingers to the bone Big Grin

When you think about it, all oct barrels start out round where they come out of the reciver but typicly it's only half inch or so before the flats get milled in then the front half is turned round.

I guess you can say a half oct barrel is round , oct, round and this one is- round, oct.

Anyway each to there own. there are some half round/ oct barrels I don't like ether. The ones John Pell made with the wedding band in the middle exhibited great craftsmanship but they just looked weared to me.

I do like this one.

I have though about doing one round to octagon myself. It is different, and think it looks good.
