I took my wife to have breakfast at the local Cracker Barrel here in Pensacola, Fl yesterday. As we were eating, I noticed an old rifle hanging back in the far corner. It hadn't been there the last time we were there, and being somewhat curious, I wandered over to get a better look since all I could see from where I was sitting was the barrel. And I couldn't believe my eyes when I got near it. There, hanging on pegs in all its glory was a Farquharson! It isn't pristine, but it has all the wood, and sights and has a lovely patina. Don't know if it is operational, because they wouldn't let me handle it. I asked the manager how much it would cost to buy it off of them and he said it just isn't possible. All the items on the wall are property of the chain and can not be sold to the public. I even offered to go buy an old rifle and swap one for one. No deal. So, there is an honest to God piece of firearm history relegated to being a curio in a chain resturant in the Florida Panhandle. Almost made me cry! Mac

Well sumbitch!! That just isn't proper and shouldn't be legal. I might suggest getting to know one of the assistant managers or finding out who closes and get them to make the swap.Don't think of it as stealing, more like a rescue operation for a barreled brother being held againt it's will. Mt. Pocono in pennsylvania has a nice restaurant that has about 50 rifles mounted on the ceiling. Just about spent all the time while we were eating trying to figure out just what they were. Since I was driving another hour was spent doing more looking. The owner wasn't in at that time so no one could tell me anything about what was up there. But did manage to spot a few springfields, a few 1917 enfields and 98 mausers. From the looks of how they were fastened, it appeared that screws were driven into the wood and bailing wire was wrapped around the rifles by the pistol grips and near the front sights. Not the wood on the rifles, but the wood on the ceiling. Thought I heard a few jaws drop at my mistake. Frank
