I had a Ruger No.1 International some years ago in .243. Nice looking but not very accurate. Full length stock was always a problem to get good accuracy. Hope they are a bit better now! Regular forarms on NO.1's have always been fussy to bed but the International was even worse.
Good Luck

I've got a newer No.1 RSI in 7x57. Great rifle. Trigger is inconsisent, heavy and pretty rough right out of the box. I recommend having a trigger job done or having it replaced.

I've not had any problems with my rifle. Bought a couple of boxes of factory to shoot from it before getting all the loading components together. The Winchester 145 grain loads shot right at 1 1/4" 5 shot groups at 100 yards. The Hornady Light Magnum did about 1 1/2" groups. The barrel heats up very quickly on the range, so I usually give it 5 or 6 minutes between shots on individual groups. These groups were shot with the original trigger. A better trigger or good trigger job will likely shrink those groups considerably.

The rifle handles superbly and is very quick to the shoulder and on target. The wood to metal fit isn't the best in the world, nowhere near as good as the older No.1's. I did shoot one 5 shot group with the Winchester ammunition that put all five shots into just a tiny bit less than one inch, but have only done that once. I mounted a Leupold 1.75-6x on the rifle for these groups, but have just swapped scopes on it in favor of a Leupold 1.5-5x.

Got one in 270, got tired of waiting for a 7x57... Mine is older, has great fit and beautiful wood. Shoots more than accurately enough for any sane deer hunting, I can keep all my shots into a 8 inch circle at 300 yards with a 1.5x4.5 scope. Muzzle blast is significant in 270, but not really a problem. I'm thinking the ideal rounds for one of these babies would be 358 winchester and 444 marlin!

regards,
graycg

I had a Ruger #1A in 7 x 57 and I wish I had it back. it would shoot around an inch with any load I shot in it. recoil is mild. I will probably get another one one of these days

I think that the 308 was only offered the first year or so of production. I would like to have a 1A or 1S in 358 winchester also

Never understood why there isn't an option for .308 Win. I do agree that a .358 Win would also be pretty cool!

I have one in 243 and love it. Two projects for the same gun that I'd love to have on the same platform.. a 50 Caliber something. 500 Linebaugh, 50 AK or 500 S&W. I thik the Linebaugh would kick plenty enough.

The other would be a rifled 20 gauge shotgun on this platform.

I had a #1 AB in 7X57 and it was a wonderfull rifle for walking in the woods with. I sold it when I had a custom 7X57 Ackley built. Nothing against the Ackley but I wish I had the #1 back.

Gents,
I've made up my mind to order a #1 International in 7x57 and just wanted to hear from others about their experience with this rifle and/or cartridge.
I will mainly use this gun for still hunting and stalking whitetail at short ranges. I don't plan to scope it and I'm not overly concerend with accuracy as most of my shots will be within 50 yds. That said, any pitfalls I should watch for with this rifle/cartridge?

Thanks
