Anyone have experience with these, been looking at one in .270 for the last 3 gunshows. It is in excellent shape, and priced at $750, I just don't care for another .270. Are barrels hard to come by and what calibers were they made in? Accuracy?

Barrels are not available, last I checked from T/C. About the only option if you do not like the 270 is to have a really good gunsmith bore the barrel out of the mono-block and put a new one in.

If I were you and I wanted it, I would make that fact known to the seller and look for about a $100 discount.

Thanks, that's what I thought about the barrels and the caliber conversion. Don't think I want it that much.

The rifle is out of production. Used barrels in a variety of common and uncommon cartridges are available sometimes from .22 Hornet to 470 NE and shotgun gauges. Watch edstc.com and gunbroker. I don't know of anyone making custom TCR barrels anymore although SSK was the last that I know. The TCR is a slim, trim rifle with some appeal but I sold all of mine when the Encore was released and I have not regretted it. $750 is in the ballpark for one in excellent condition as the price keeps creeping up on them.

I used to have one. I had a 223 barrel that was extreemly acurate. a 243 barrel that I didn't shoot much but shot real well and a 270 barrel that was again extreemly accurate. Barrels are available used only and are going up every time I look at them. The rifle is trim, quite elegant and a joy to carry around. I had mine for 10 years or so before I got tired of it and sold it for something new. DW

I have one with 6, no, 7 different barrels. I have found the rifles with their factory barrels to be very, very accurate...more accurate than your typical factory bolt gun. Oddly enough, I found their heavier custom shop barrels ("Fox Ridge", IIRC) to be significantly less accurate than their light-weight "standard" barrels. Barrels are really not that hard to find, though they certainly have gone up substantially in price from the $150 apiece I used to pay.

My barrels are in .223 Remington, .225 Winchester, .243 Winchester, 7m/m-08 Remington, .30-06 Government, and .32-40 Winchester...oh yeh, forgot I also have a .22 Hornet barrel.

Well, anyway, I find them really well made and really good shooters, as well as light and very handy to carry...and you can stick one (disassembled) in a suitcase if you need to. Disassembly is the same as any single-shot break action shotgun. Remove the forend, open the gun and remove the barrel. Voila! You are done. To re-assemble, reverse the order.

Some of the major scope mount makers used to make scope mounts, as did T/C itself, so they aren't too hard to come by either.

And of course tastes vary, but I like the appearance of the TCR series much more than either Contender or Encore-based T/Cs. To me they have much smoother lines, are more streamlined, and shaped un-like a dog's hind leg. And their blue, similar to the old hi-polish Colt Python blue, seems virtually indestructible.

You couldn't pry mine away from me with an 8-foot steel ice-chisel.

You know what AC? you couldn't mine if I had it back but it seemed like the right thing to do at the time. I think I got $265 each for two of the barrels on gunbroker and sold the rifle with one barrel for $500. I did need the money at the time. I have acumulated some very nice stuff since then but there just isn't another sleek little break action single shot on the market. Oh Well. DW

I made this fiberglass stock for a TCR-87. It has a .50-140 barrel on it.

Virgin Valley made some wood for the one I had. They did well then. Mine was a finish it myself project. Some one here ended up with it. Cant remember who. DW
