I just picked up one of each of these Ruger rifles today in a trade.

Does anyone know how many of each of these calibers were made? I was surprised that both have 24" barrels. Man, that 275 Rigby is a SWEET, light, trim little thing in my hands. Can't wait for deer season...

Thanks in advance for any info.

All of the 35 Whelens I have seen have been on Cabelas in the used guns area.

Maybe 1500?

Is it actually marked 275 Rigby? I have not seen one like that. I know Hornady is producing a 7x57 marked as 275 Rigby for those of you that have to have it.

Hi surefire,

I have a Ruger #1 in 275 Rigby. I have only shot it off the bench sighting in the scope. With factory it shoots pretty good. I have some 130 gr. Cutting Edge Raptors to handload. I think it will be outstanding.

BWW: Yes it is marked 275 Rigby.

BWW, as Impala said, yes, it is marked on the barrel 275 Rigby.

I thought that made it unique as I have another one marked 7x57.

Anyone hear numbers produced on the ones marked 275 Rigby?

Was it a special Lipseys order vs. a regular Ruger product?

Impala#03, I just picked it up last night and haven't shot it yet. What kind of groups were you getting with the factory ammo you used? What weigh/style/brand of bullet was it?

This ought to be a great antelope/deer rifle. I don't know why this particular rifle, of all of the No. 1s I own, makes me think of the classic English stalking rifle, but it certainly does. I am really in love with this rifle. I hope it's accuracy doesn't spoil the honeymoon...

Hi surefire,

I shot Hornady 140 gr. 275 Rigby @ 100 yds and got 1.5" gr. 5 shot groups. PPU 7x57 140 gr. 5 shot groups were a little larger. I'm sure handloads will shrink groups quite a bit.

I'm thinking of sending my 275 Rigby to R. J. Renner for an overhaul. He makes the #1's into a classic stalking rifle. Check out his website. R.J.Renner.com.

I think the 275 Rigbys were a Lipseys special order only.

Impala#03, thanks for all of the info. I'll check out the website you gave me.

I just bought some of that Hornaday 275 Rigby 140 gr. ammo today at the same place I got the rifle. Had it for $25/box; bought all they had! That Interlock bullet ought to be just fine for deer.

Now, can't wait to go and shoot it...
