I've recently purchased this rifle and I'm having difficulty finding an accurate load. Presentley it shoots 3-6 inch groups at 100 yds.
I've tried 6 different projectiles(300-500gn) and 2 (ADI 2207 & 2205 (Equv to IMR 4198 & 4227)powders.
The rifle seems to have a short throat as I have to seat most projectiles deeper than the crimp groove to close the action.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Mine , in 45-70, has no problem keeping factory loads in 1".How does yours do with factory loads? The forend should not touch the barrel.Those are appropriate burning rate powders so accuracy should be easy .Have you slugged the barrel and checked bullet diameter ?

Try 400 grain jacketed bullets with 53 grains of 3031 but be ready for a little recoil.

If you can get Nosler 300 grain partitions, try them. They give me the best accuracy in
my 45-70.

I shoot 40 grains of RL7. This load seems to be a great load in every 45-70 I have ever shot.

If a 405 grain bullet will not seat out to the crimp groove, then there is something wrong. I would send it back. However some shooter's like that type of chamber, and with detailed work could probably find a load that would be very accurate.

Did you do a chamber casting??? Tom.
