I like the 1A because it is so light and handy. The 22" barrel makes it feel more like a 30/30 carbine. I've handled a standard 1B in .270 w/ 26" barrel. It was WAY too muzzle heavy for my tastes. The 1A balanced perfectly even with a scope. Ben R.

I'd go with the 1S or 1A. Just never liked the big beavertail forearm on the B or V versions. The S also comes with the 26" barrel, at least my 338 does. Not sure if the 25-06 is offered in the S version or not though.

Recently I bought a used 25-06 in pretty good shape. The forearm was loose and needed a rebedding job, both against the receiver and at the hanger. I set it up so it was free floating but used some tape to give it up lift at the tip and a real needed barrel cleaning, down to the bare metal. Made up 25 rounds with thee different bullets 75gr V-mav, 85gr Fowler and 100 gr Hornady Interlock all of them Moly plated. Well non of the loads shot less than 1-1/2" three and and five shots. I used H4831 and Reloder 22 and IMR 4350. All standard book loads. And new Win brass. On the second try I removed the tape for a free float and installed a barrel tension block between the barrel and the hanger and sprung the hanger by .060". The hard wood bock is glued to the hanger only with epoxy. This puts tension on the barrel at the hanger tip. The block is 1/2x1/2 plus .060" bigger than the gap. I now have a rifle that shoots two shots out of a cold barrel with five loads and three bullets as above. .37 V-max. .3" Fowler. .5" and .6" for the Inter lock. The rifle will do that only from a cold barrel. At following shots the group opens up to 1.5" to 1-3/4 in all instances. Case prep included a slight outside neck reaming. Checking the cases after neck reaming and sizing with a collet die they were virtually without run out. But when they come out of the chamber fired they have .003" runout. Subsequent neck sizing reduces the runout to .002". The new Win brass is .464 at the base and fired they are .472". Quite a difference. Now why would the third and fourth shot go so far out, and the barrel is not really hot. It was a cold day and each set was allowed to start with a cold barrel. I am wondering if a Cryo job would settle the barrel down? But then this is called a single shot rifle, and the first shot goes where it supposed to go. Unfortunatly I had a low battery in my Chrono and could not test for velocity. A lighter trigger would be nice, but not a single set.
