I had a Ruger #1 in 338 Lapua. 26" Pac-Nor Barrel with a brake and a set trigger. Shot several speed goats with in Colorado. No problems wish I had it back.

I don’t see a pressure problem with the 338. The Lapua runs pressures just a little higher than a 25-06. Thrust is a different question but I don’t see it as a problem. Rim size on the Lapua is .588, I’ve seen a custom No. 1 in 500 N. E. with a rim size of .655 so block face size is not a problem either.

The #1 has a 1" barrel shank. Some smiths can open it up a bit.

I had a Ruger # 1 re barreled and chambered to 330 dakota. There was no problem, 338 Lapua is just a longer version.
