Gentlemen,

I am buying a Blaser K-95 Stutzen in .308 Winchester and would greatly appreciate your input on scope choice...

I'm a Schmidt & Bender Dealer, and hence not new to scopes, however, I am new to light little singleshots...

Regards, Matt.

Matt,

congratulations on such a good buy!

my experience with the k77 and the current k95 has always been fantastic.

I now have a model exklusive in 6,5x57R.

I would suggest either a Zeiss Victory in 2,5-10x50 or a Swarovski AV 4-12x50. either scope is reasonably lightweight.

sizewise, they are the largest scope that in my opinion does not spoil the lines of the petite k95.

I would choose the model with rail mount, the one which does not require rings. I believe it to be a more "solid" system than any ring mount.

it also eliminates any canting error when mounting the scope, canting that we may or may not be aware of.

I have used S&B's to my full satisfaction but for a mountain gun I would one with one of the two mentioned for two reasons: lighter weight and a thinner reticle that helps on long shots.

just my two cents.

I have a K-95 Stutzen in 308. I put a Ziess 3x9 with a 1 inch tube on this rifle to keep it light and trim. I used the European QD lever Blaser Mount. I took this scope off of my 223 Blaser R 93 bbl [sporter weight] and replaced it with a S&B 2.5-10x56. I just felt that the lighter trimmer scope was a better fit for the Stutzen.

I have taken one turkey with this rifle and have only had it to the range twice, however it is one of the most accurate hunting rifles I have ever shot. I am amazed at how well it shoots. So far I have tried 6 factory loads and one handload that I had a few left over that were loaded for my brothers 308. The biggest groups have been right at one inch. I will use this rifle quite a bit this year.

One very good thing about the Blaser's is their scope mounts. They go back to zero 100% so you could have 2 scopes for your Stutzen, one for high country stalking and one for blind sitting with a bigger objective.

On my 9,3x74R Chapuis double I have a Swarovske 1.5-6x42 with the illuminated circle dot reticle that I really like for low light shooting. Great for pigs at night, or leopard in a tree.

Matt, that is one nice looking rifle. I like mine so much I am going to use it on my Sept Idaho Bear hunt.

Again congratulations on your choice. I have a 6.5x57R Lux which has a Swarovski 6x42 mounted with the blaser ring saddlemount. As it comes it is somewhat high for 42mm optics. I had mine lowered by machining the rings. The swaro #4 ret is very precise indeed (Cross hair is only 0.32" at 100yards) and the scope weighs only 12ozs.

The ring mount is technicaly inferior but allowed me to obtain a lower mount by machining, also the resale value of rail mounts scopes in the UK is about nil.

I think that Montero's suggestion of an AV 4-12x50 in ringmounts is probably the US solution and is very versatile.

When Hunt101 is accessible I will post a photo.

I had a Leupold 3,5-10x50 on mine but replaced it because of adjustment problems (it is off up to 6 clicks according to the collimator) and because it was getting darker with the years. Now a Zeiss conquest is mounted. With the rig I took some head of game all over the world - no complaints whatsoever.
As a Schmidt und Bender dealer, you should take the new 1,5-6x42 Zenith into consideration: Enough magnification for long shots and gorgeous for close up shots on critters that might fight back.
Very low mounting (which I don't like, other than the dedicated stock crawlers) may be a little problem with any tip open gun/rifle, as you must have enough clearance for your thumb between ccular body and opening lever.
Good shooting with your Blaser single - I like mine very much.
