Have any of you guys put a heavy barrel or target barrel on a Ruger No. 1? I have been debating on doing this, or do you really need too? And how would you go about this since the stock is two piece? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I have a stock#1v in 2506 with 24inch barrel and another ruger in #1b converted from 300 win mag to 7 mm STW now with 30 inch varmint contour barrel. I prefer the heavy barrels on both. Weight is not that much different between 1B and 1v. I shoot alot long distance and prefer the accuracy you get from the #1v. I think the main difference I like is the scope blocks found on the #1V compared to the rib found on the #1B. The scope blocks make a big difference for greater accuracy. I am happy with my setup and that is what counts.

I have a No. 1 rebarreled with a 1 1/16" heavy 26" barrel in 45-70. Very accurate and fun to shoot. Rebarrel done by McGowen Barrels. Can manage 1" groups at 200 yds. Shoot only cast bullets. As much fun to load as it is to shoot.

Have a Ruger No.1 with heavy 28" octagonal barrel in 45/120 Sharps and another in 38/55Win. Both were built as fun guns. The 38/55 has a 25x Lyman scope for cast bullet shooting at 200 yards. 300gn cast with 16gn 2400 will group 2.5in 10 shot groups at this range
