I picked up a Ruger #1 off another board's classifieds last weekend. It is a 9.3X74R. I already have 3 other 9.3 caliber rifles, a CZ FS 9.3X62, an old Mauser in 9.3 x 62, and a Chapuis Double rifle in 9.3 x74R. This one came with about 50 pieces of brass, some 250 grain accubonds, an almost full box of Speer 270's, some unknown pawnshop bullets, NECG rear sight, and RCBS dies. All for $700. By the time I got home it was late but I had time to shoot it 3 times at a gong using my load for the double with Privi 286 grain bullets. Leaning against a pine tree at 105 yards, I shot this 2 inch group using the peep sight.
I may eventually scope it but for now I am leaving it with the peep sight.

RAC: Fabulous find, and I am envious. I have a No. 1 in .450/400 on the way, but 9,3X74 would be my next choice. Both are such elegant and effective old cartridges.

For the dollar spent, the Ruger NO. 1's and 3's are an excellent rifle. I have the No. 1 in the largest, 458Lott, and the smallest, No.3 in 22 K Hornet. Might find it usefull to take a look at the Ruger site and they provide take down and reassembly video on these rifles and upon doing so, will see the simplicity and why they are so sturdy/strong. Easy to strip and clean after a seasons use.

The newest rifle is always my favorite. But my Chapuis double will always be first choice when I go back to Africa.
