Anybody have any experience with heavily rebated rims in a #1, say .540 body, .473 case head?

Will it work???

No experience per se, but with a correctly shaped extractor, there is nothing about the way a No. 1 functions that would interfere with it working well. The extractor does not care how deep the extractor groove on the case is, as it goes all the way over toward the center until the extractor is stopped by the bottom of the extractor cut in the case head. For example, the No. 1 in .416 Rigby, a rimless design, and the .45/70, a rimmed case, both use the same extractor.

In the situation you propose, you could start with an extractor for the .30/'06 size case head, and fit it to the rebated case head. In fact, it might work with your case with no alteration at all.....
