titled, "Holy crap, what a great concept!" Quite a few people did not share that sentiment.

No fan of dropping block actions here. But, if I was, my first thought is to pick one up and look at the quality. The one pictured has a svelte look about it with some dandy case hardening and some real potential. Lose the rounded grip and do a steel grip cap.
The original stocks would make some dandy patterns too. There are lots of really nice two piece walnut blanks out there on the cheap. Maybe a mini shadow line cheek piece and some nice borderless checkering in a point pattern?
