Friend has a #1 for sale for $475.00 in 300 Wthby Mag. It has a factory muzzle brake. How scarce is this gun and is this a good buy. Gun is 99%.......................OTTO

It's not rare (that I know of), and Ruger did not offer muzzle brakes as a factory option on any of their rifles.

$475 is not unreasonable, but it has no collector value. Whether it is a good buy depends upon how well it shoots.

My friend has a #1 in .300 Weatherby for sale too! His has no brake. There must be something in the air.

I got to shoot the last #1 I bought. The owner said it would shoot one MOA and it did.

I would not want a muzzle brake but maybe you do?

I sincerely doubt the brake is factory. I have never seen or heard of any Ruger coming with a brake, not even limited runs. Could be wrong, but I don't think so. On the No.1 in .300 Wby, I really do not see the need for a brake. Mine sure does not kick hard enough for a brake anyway. If it is in very good to excellent condition, the price is not bad, but you can buy a new one for $525-$550 if you look around, so the price sure is not great either. If you would want a brake on that light a caliber, then to you the brake could add $100 to the value, but only if you would be adding a brake anyway, otherwise, the brake on this light a caliber would be a minus, at least to me anyway.

Thanks for replies. The brake is turned along with the barrel, and contured right in. Not an add on. The barrel is a Ruger. Weird. As I have never seen or heard of Ruger doing this either. I was looking for an action to rebarrel to a 30-378..............................OTTO

Ruger has not ever made a rifle with a brake. Is the brake an integral brake, not a screw on? Those are fairly easy to do without messing up the original finish. I suspect this is what was done.

It's either a well-done add-on (like a KDF or Answer), or it is ported.

What is the overall length of the barrel? You'll need at least 26"-28" of barrel to get gull benefit of the .30-.378Wby.

Either the brake was welded on, and the barrel reblued or it is factory.

As far as 30-378 Wthby Mag I plan to re-barrel the #1 to a 32" heavey stainless. ...OTTO

I have a #1 in .30-378 with a 28" tube. I wish it was 30", so 32" might be a good idea.
