huntersdad...your post is the first I have ever seen of these rifles...I like it!...Would really get excited if they were chambered in a 9.3X74R....I can't justify spending 4 + grand on a Blazer K95...hope someone starts importing these... Smiler

As long as the accuracy and price are in line with CZ's normal standards, I'm very interested.

If the weight is 5.94 lbs it would make a good takedown backpacking rifle. What is the price, do you know?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

From another website:

"Tip-up rifle BRNO-EFFECT Tip-up rifle Brno-Effect is designed for hunters who enjoy calm and sophisticated hunting sessions. The gun has a firm breech frame. Cocking of the striking action is performed by the top lever while opening. The trigger is equiped with the set trigger. The rifle captivates not only for its utility value and wide choice of calibres, but also for the option to make up the complete set including shot barrel caliber 20. Approximate price 17,000 CZK / 580,- EUR"

So, $790 USD would be a fair price for an accurate little stalking rifle...and the 20 bore tube would make for handy little gat while walking the dog in the prairie grass...if CZ/BRNO choose to import it.

go on the website for the Cabela's in Boise. I think I saw one of these, all scratched up and brass (at least it was shiny and yellow colored) pinstriped or something...

I sent them a note asking if they plan to export the Effect to the States, suggesting it would fill the niche between the clunky Encore and the lovely but way too spendy Merkels and Blasers. If you're inclined to ask them yourselves here's the contact form http://www.czub.cz/index.php?p=3&lang=en I'll let you know if I hear anything...please do the same.

I've seen a few of these while hunting in eastern Europe. They were mainly chambered in 308win. Seen one in 243win which was being used as a Roe rifle.

They are lovely well balanced little things. The handling was very similar to my Beretta 20bore OU. They seemed like a great bargain for the price - certainly compared to an entry grade Blaser K95 which is 5-6 times the price. Didn't see any fired at paper so can't comment on accuracy.

One guy had a delux grade in 7x65r with beautiful timber and a twist barrel like a Mannlicher. I'd have paid a fair price to get that one home with me.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

In response to this message sent to CZ in Europe:

"Have you any plans to export the Effect single-shot rifle to the USA? I think it would fill an important niche for those of us who want a nicer rifle than the T/C Encore but who are not inclined to purchase a Merkel or Blaser stalking rifle."

I received this reply:

"Thank you for your interest in and for the praise you have for firearms made by our company. In your case I would strongly recommend to contact our subsidiary company in the USA and to express your opinion about Brno Effect rifle to our staff there. All contacts and information you need is available on this company webiste at: http://www.cz-usa.com "

So I sent CZ USA the following:

"I emailed the folks at CZ in Europe to ask if they had any plans to export the Effect single-shot rifle to the USA. I told them I thought the Effect would fill an important niche for those of us who want a nicer rifle than the T/C Encore but who are not inclined to purchase a Merkel or Blaser stalking rifle. They suggested I contact you at CZ USA with my opinion. As you must know CZ enjoys a strong reputation as a gunmaker who offers old world quality at prices Americans can afford. Unless a picture is not worth a thousand words the Effect stalking rifle has to handle so much better than its next closest competition, the T/C Encore (which, as you also know, handles like a 2x4). As attractive as the Effect is wearing a rifle barrel, I'll wager it handles like a dream with the 20 bore shot barrel fitted. One might argue that Mossberg has already tested the market with their SSI single-shot, but it's a clunky beast of a rifle, especially in lighter calibers. The Ruger No.1 is an attractive rifle but it continues to suffer from a reputation for twitchy accuracy, and it's not a switch-barrel. I think there's a market for the Effect. I hope you agree."

I'll let you know if I hear anything from CZ USA. Good hunting!

CZ is marketing a boat load of SS and OU shotguns in the US now. And they look pretty good for the money....I am sure they will hammer the cheap Rusky doubles.

I have been shooting one of these for a little over 5 or 6 years now...or at least mine is a Brno that looks exactly like the one at the site you posted, though it is not stamped anything to do with "Effect". I bought it off one of the "auction" sights here in the U.S., but don't recall which one...probably was AuctionArms.com, as eBay had already cancelled gun sales, and I NEVER buy anything off of GunsAmerica.

Mine is in .222 Remington, and has the Brno scope mounts and an El Paso Weaver T-16 on it. It is "interesting" to say the least. The trigger pull was initially about 12 pounds. Crisp, but heavier than a lead sled. Still, if one really concntrates on a s-m-o-o-o-th trigger pull, it will shoot groups of 3/8" and smaller.

Now that it has been shot a bunch, the trigger pull is down to about 6-1/2 to 7 pounds. I'm hoping it will eventually get down below 4 pounds, but don't know how likely/unlikely that is.

I took the buttstock off to see if I wanted to putz with the trigger, and I don't. It is a "black box" with no visible adjustments or clues as to how many parts, springs, etc., it may contain or how it functions (direct, over-ride, whatever).

So, as I do not have access to a known supply of spare parts, I don't want to disassemble the trigger in my workshop...a spring or other small part flying off on its lonesome in there could be lost until the second coming!!!

The wood on my rifle is VERY nice, as is the blued finish.

If they were commonly available, I would certainly like one of the 6.5 m/m or 7 m/m chamberings. Mine is very light weight, so I certainly would not find something on the order of a .300 Mag or larger comfortable to shoot if it was about the same overall weight as mine.

My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.
