Well, just bought the top Ruger rifle on my list that I've been keeping an eye out for some time, like about 8 years.
It's the No 1V (Varmint) 26 inch heavy barrel in 220 Swift with the walnut stock. I love the looks of the No 1s in walnut and already have a 25-06 in the No 1V configuration. The only No 1V for some reason that Ruger fit with the 26 inch barrel was in the Swift. My 25-06 came with a 24 inch barrel.

Why Ruger fit 26 inch barrels on their No 1Bs and not on all the No 1Vs I've often wondered about. Anyway.

The rifle I picked up today has never been fired and I got the box also. I plan on mounting a Leupold 6.5x20x40 scope on it. I'll start off working up a load beginning with 37.5 grains of IMR 4064 shooting the Sierra 55grain Spitzer BT.

Finally! (Paid south of $500 with a Tasco scope that I'll ditch.)

I've tried this No 1 with IMR 4064 and IMR 4831, both shotting the Nosler 55gr SP. At best I'm averaging right at an inch.

Any good suggestions for improving the accuracy on this No. 1V in 220 Swift?

Please take a look at a post I just made to a thread here on Single Shot Rifles, "New Ruger No.1, need some help". That is what I had to do to get mine in 22 Hornet to shoot.
It's the same fix for all number 1's that won't shoot, regardless of caliber.
