I have had three and still have two; my first was a Valmet in .308 Win.x12 ga. and it was a good gun. I sold it and now have a Miroku-Browning .308Win.x12Ga., an absolutely superb gun I bought in 1989. I also have a Merkel drilling in 9.3x74rx12-12 which is also a useful meat getter and good for anything in North America with 286gr. Nosler PTs @ 2375 fps. plus two Brenneke slugs; these shoot to poa @ 25 yds. as does an ounce of sixes for Grouse. I love combo guns for meat hunting here in B.C. as they are so useful; being of part Kraut-Squarehead ancestry may have something to do with it, as well. I recommend getting one as they are the perfect "second gun" or third or fourth or.....

Done more than a little shooting with my brother's Savage M24 22 lr over 20 gauge but their triggers are usually gruesome. I've got a Valmet 12 over 223 that I'm tempted to rechamber to 220 Swift or trade into a 9.3x74R double rifle. A buddy of mine has the EAA 308 over 12 ga combination gun. It's a little coarse but the whole gun only cost what a set of barrels for the Valmet 412/Tikka 512 do. I've always wondered why Savage couldn't make a 22 lr over 12 ga; seems like a fellow would be set for mice to moose and grouse to grizzlies. I asked at EAA and they said they intended to offer such a combo but I've seen nothing since. Good hunting!

I have a CZ combination gun in 12 ga over 7x57R and really like it. With an adjustable rifle trigger and a really stiff barrel (it is attached to the shotgun barrel after all) it is more accurate than I am. I put a 1x scope on it, set as far forward as it would go in the factory mounts, and can actually break clay targets with it on a trap range (some of the time). I mention this gun because it's in the middle price-wise. A CZ costs more than a Savage or an EAA, but I have less than $1,000 in mine counting scope. Now all I need is a Lothar Walther 7x57R chamber insert in .22LR so I can practice on squirrels for 2 cents a shot, and I can sell the rest . . . Wait a minute!
