I have a Ruger #1 that I want to create a custom out of since I have ruled out the Dakota. Given a budget of about 1/2 of what a Dakota cost, who would you recommend doing the work.

This one will be another full custom, with new stock, barrel, and possibly simple engraving.

I've used Greg Tannel in the past for rebarrel jobs and have another rebarrel job being done by Kevin Weaver. Nothing but good work

But since this will be a full custom I want someone who can do it all.

Thanks
Michael

Contact Mark Stratton, he creates some wonderful rifles that begin life as a Ruger No.1.

Mr. Stratton does masterful work, but a budget of 1/2 the cost of a Dakota Model 10 will not cover the sort of work you are looking for (stock, barrel, engraving).

Have you looked at Arthur Brown? http://www.eabco.com

I just got a Ruger #1 back from the. I had it chambered for 30-06 AI. They put on a new barrel, trigger, stock(Bell and Carlson), and Hick accurizer. I have not had a chance to shoot it too extensively however I have had at least one load with 165gr Nos. BT's under MOA. The trigger is outstanding. Especially compared to my factory Ruger #1. I thought the price was fair and turn around time was about the same as other gun builders. I had them put a Douglas premium barrel on. Check them out.

I'd like to thank all who replied. I did speak to Mark Stratton this morning and it appears his custom #1's start at $4500.00 which includes the action and go from there.

Pac-Nor built my 6BR custom, under 1/2MOA, costs-reasonable.

Kepplinger trigger and never look back.

I think you need to look at used Dakotas what caliber do you want?

Your never going to get what you want for $2500.

For $3500 you could buy a ton of really nice used rifles.
