Does anyone make an alloy 1/4 rib that extents out over the action to allow for better eye relieve. I am using now the Ruger extension rings which are heavy and clunky. I have two Rugers a #1 and a #3 where I used a #58 Weaver base for the rear and a #45 for the front they work realy well, but do not look too well. What other lighter rings fit the Ruger 1/4 rib. I don't know if anyone makes alloy ribs, I looked and ended up milling one out took a couple of attempts but came out well. You might check with a local machinist.

Zermel, Look up Conetrol in Seguin, TX. He makes nice, quality stuff and list parts for the #1.

MicinColo Suppose I could modify that base to fit my octagon barrel. I got a milling machine available and think I mill a custom 1/4 rib to take Burris rings with exentric inserts. These 2 piece bases look much like my modified Weaver bases. Not so great looking nevertheless they work really well, on both my 25-06 and 375Win #3. BTW. I had lots of trouble with that Kepplinger set trigger to finally make it work the way it supposed to. It is a long story. Maybe my trigger was a cull? I had to mill one side level because the rear part was rubbing on the frame opening and binding, which gave changing trigger pulls.the final pull weights are 24oz unset and 12oz set, very nice indeed. I have since bought a new 9.3x74R with a 4.5lbs trigger which I honed to 30oz, it breaks clean with no creep and no backlash. This I think is the best kind of trigger for a Ruger#1, plus or minus a few oz. Fred M. zermel@shaw.ca

Here is my version of getting the scope in a better position regarding eye relieve. It is somewhat labor intensive and not too sexy, but works extreamly well. The rear base #58 uses the existing Ruger holes in the barrel. A collimeter is used to ge the proper heigth for the front base. Fred M. zermel@shaw.ca

Interesting Zermel. As long as you can get the eye piece over or back of the safety switch, that works for me.

MickinColo. Depending on the scope the rear lense can be even further back than the safety. The Weaver rings shown in the picture can be changed for any other popular rings tha fit the Weaver base. I use the Burris Signature rings with the inserts. One other big benefit is the weight loss of at least 3/4lbs. This weight loss is between the hands and is noticeable. Fred M. zermel@shaw.ca
