I have a T/C Contender that I put together as a 375jdj carbine. It did pretty good till I tried withot a shell to close it cocked. It fired by itsself this way.I dont know if thats what they are supose to do or not but it does not seem right.I guess I should call TC and see if I need to send it in.

I've been around Contenders since they were first introduced, and I have never, ever heard of such a thing. For starters, the hammer is not supposed to be able to be cocked when the action is open -- and I really don't see how it could be given the simplistic design of the Contender itself.

Perhaps I am envisioning incorrectly what you are trying to convey. I guess what I am saying is that we need much more detail from you before we venture into any possible scenarios of a solution.

I have had all generations of Contender...including a G2. I have never had one that could be cocked while open. My G2 can be fooled into thinking it is closed and this will allow you to cock it.....I have found no real good reason to try it.

If I open it cocked and reclose it it fires by itself.I had my nephew shooting it at the range before I fould out.I just wonder if the trigger is adjusted two light. Its only about a pound.I just wonder if the 375jdj is just too much for older framer contender. It was a new older frame.

First ,ajust the trigger ,and see if that helps .
If not IMO send the frame in to TC to have them check it out .
Something sounds off.

TC has repaired a frame for me a few years back.
I got it back in 10 days total with no charge.

Better safe than sorry

Johnch

PS I always leave the hinge pin out when I send the frame in ,They send one with it when they return it .

Does the gun actually fire or does the hammer 'bump off' to the hammer block ?

I put in a primed piece of brass and it fired.I will try adjusting the trigger .It was adjusted to about a pound or so when I got it.Thats too light for hunting.I am sending it in before I fire it any more.

I have had my contender pop open a couple of times after I fired it. The first time was with a SSK barrels. It was blamed on a pachmyer forearm. The second time was with a 35 Herret, with a home done chrome job, that had a rough time closing. I guessed that it was a problem with the barrel.

Why would you open it cocked, and then close it still cocked????
