Can someone tell me the function of the front and rear set screws on a ruger #1 trigger?
Thanks, Pete [Frown]

I'd have to get out my No. 1 instruction sheet to tell you which is which, but one screw is supposed to increase/decrease weight of pull by increasing or decreasing trigger-return spring tension, and the other is supposed to increase or decrease over-travel after the trigger breaks.

In my most recent No. 1, the weight of pull has never been light enough to suit me, and no amount of adjustment has improved it. All my other No. 1's and a No. 3 have all been sarifactorily adjustable, but the newest of the others was made in 1976.... [Roll Eyes]

Depends- if you have a recent rifle, those screws will strictly do nothing, except turn. I found the same problem with mine, and had a Moyers trigger installed, which is basically the old-style Ruger trigger. This one adjusts for sear engagement and overtravel, and is very nice. But the factory trigger can be quite lousy.

New #1s hace two set screws, both can be adjusted with the stock in place. The front screw adjusts for over travel and the back screw adjusts tension on the trigger return spring. The older 3 1s have a third screw that is adjusted with the stock removed, this is the screw that adjust sear contact and the only adjustment that may much differance in your trigger pull. The Moyer trigger has all three screws and is easy to install and adjust. The Canjar trigger is a single set trigger and again easy to install and adjust. I have # 1s with both and if you are not interested in a set trigger go with the Moyer.
