I am having Macon Gun Stocks (660/438-4699 and they have a website) of Warsaw Missouri make a stock for one of my TCR-87's. They are duplicating a factory rifle butt-stock with fancy wood I provided, but are leaving some extra wood so I can make a monte carlo cheek-piece. They are also duplicating a 10-ga forend and making an additional forend with a narrower barrel channel. I think their price is real reasonable, and they will have it done in a couple weeks.

This is good for me, but this is what is good for other TCR-87 owners looking for a new stock. When they duplicate a stock, they do four at a time. They will sell the other ones. They will probably make the others from plain wood. However, if someone would want one made with fancy wood and get it ordered in time, they would probably make one for you with the grade of wood of your choice.

Note that this is for for a TCR-87, not a TCR-83. Barrels and forends interchange between the two guns but not butt-stocks. At least the butt-stock on my TCR-83 is different than the butt-stock on my TCR-87's. They look the same, but the angle of the attachment bolt is different.

Don,
Where are you on your project? Frankly, I can't remember if mine is an 83 or 87...I'll check and see. I would be interested in having it restocked so keep me posted on your progress.

Macon finished the duplicating Friday and I will get it by Wednesday. I am having a local guy do the final inletting to make sure I don't screw it up. Macon left some extra wood for a cheek-piece so I need to get that shaped, which may take me a while as will the sanding and finishing. I want to use a filler with a redish color so it will match with the wood on my other TRC-87's.

Sounds good. I can't tell which one I have, 83 or 87. It has a set trigger and cheek piece but that could be either one... Four digit serial number in the 6xxx range.

My TCR-83 has a serial number in the high 9,000's and two of my TCR-87's are around 13,000 and the two others are around 16,000.

For some reason, I believe mine is an 83. I still want a stock made for it, regardless.

Would it be possible to just have them drill the stock attachment hole at a different angle for the TCR83.I can sure see where the stock you had made would work better for a scope than the one they come with. Thanks,OB

That seems possible to me but I think they would need your TCR-83 action with stock-bolt to measure the angle. They seemed very easy to work with. Also, their web page does not include all the guns they make stocks for. For me the TCR-83 stocks have way to much drop for a scope sight and even a factory shaped TCR-87 rifle stock would be an improvement. However, I prefer even more cheek support so wanted a monte carlo cheek-piece added.

ID,

I think we here need to thank you for this bit of information. Mine is 57XX and stamped -Mag- above the SN. TC-83

I am embarrassed to admit I have not yet fired the sporter weight 30-378 barrel I got with it. Actually, I am not...
I was able to fit a 36X B&L scope on mine for load testing, and it j-u-s-t clears with the Leupold (?) one-piece base on it.

Be my hero, tell me you know where to get monoblocks.

Thanks again,

Rich

WHERE TO GET MONOBLOCKS: Long ago SSK Handcannons had monoblocks and Virgin Valley, no longer in business, was making them. I bought some extra barrels when Thompson Center was selling them off for $125 each, mostly to have a supply of monoblocks. It's not difficult to remove the old barrels from either the shotgun monoblocks or the rifle monoblocks which use pins. I think it would be difficult to re-use the rifle monoblocks with the barrels welded in place. I prefer the shotgun monoblocks for rebarreling as I prefer heavier barrels. So far I've had two made into 20-ga rifled slug barrels, one made into a .50-140, and one made into a 6MM-06. I will keep those shotgun barrels I have left for more conversions. I've got some rifle barrels and would sell them but want a good price for them.
