Encore Butt Bolt Angle

Hello Folks

Does anyone know if it is possible to alter the angle of the bolt which fastens the buttstock on the Encore (rifle). I don't like the stock shape the current bolt angle requires. Unfortunately they are not avaliable "off the shelf" here so I can't have a look myself to see if it might be feasible, and its a few too many $$ for an experiment !!

Cheers - Foster

Interesting idea. I've wondered about that myself as I have never been impressed by the Encore's handling. It just doesn't feel like a rifle. I'll guess that permanently changing the angle of the bolt that fastens the butt or pistol grip to the receiver might be more work than it's worth. Perhaps an adapter could be attached to the existing bolt location that would allow attachment of a stock using a bolt under the buttplate instead of under the pistol grip cap... I'll have a look next time I dig out the Encore.

i don't know if it would work with the tc, but that basic idea is what e.a.brown did to convert his single shot pistol to the rifle. it is the pistol action with a piece attached to convert it to a straight through bolt.

Ha - now thats good thinking Max, I already knew Brown did that too, and it just never occured to me to apply the same concept to the Encore.

And it would be reversible, which is not so important here (pistols are very restricted) but would still mean it could be sold as factory at some later stage . . .

Thanks - Foster

foster,
if you actually make such an adapter i would like to see how it turns out for you. the brown adapter is made out of aluminum. i have one here for stocking. been thinking of ways to make the transition a little different to get rid of some of the corners and angles that forces a sqare-ish style pistol grip.

To my eye the Contender and Encore in rifle configuration are plain ugly unless you use a thumb hole style stock....I often wondered why T/C never came out with a adapter like Brown did...If they did I would have bought a Encore a long time ago....mic.. Smiler

low wall,
i couldn't agree with you more. they are butt ugly no matter what type of rifle stock is put on them. my guess an adapter never was developed due to the "NDH" theory(Not Developed Here)

Grips are too fat!!

I put a Boyds laminated thumbhole on one of mine and after hours of sanding and rasping, it was still TOO fat!! I finally got it worked down to a point where it felt better and the biggest help was a finger groove for the trigger finger which allowed a more natural trigger pull. They are also too long in pull for me.

I had Bullberry make me a new set of wood for a 6.5-06 Imp barrel they made and that stock feels a lot better than the factory ones. I told the woodsmith I had a hand injury and I needed the smallest grip he could make. That stock feels a lot better and I got a 13.5" LOP which fits me fine and will work with a heavy coat too. I'm 5'-9" with average arms, but I like the shorter LOP. Real pretty crotch wood with 6 coats of boiled linseed oil and rottenstone rubout.

If you guys come up with a way to make it feel like a Browning Superposed or a Remington Mountain Rifle, please let me know!!
