577, looks like a Hagn that has had the lever extended. Did you get any particulars with the photos? The panels on the stock are done in a unique style, I am not sure what I think yet. Do you know what the story is with the rib? Especially, the little half-moon things. Not bad overall, but what would make it more desireable than having Martini and Hagn build it?

Guys:

At this point, you know as much as I do about the rifle, but I will see if I can get more from Butch.

the little half moon thingies are the recoil stops for the slide on scope mounts. notice the cutout in the left side of the top rib where the little thingies are. the cutout is for the forward ring to drop down onto the rib

an interesting rifle concept- isn't this the gun design butch bought from the co that went bankrupt or the owner died or something ?

the action & forend are awfully deep .
if the depth could be reduced by a third the proportions would be much nicer. we'll see what happens on future models

Perhaps Butch will chime in but I believe he purchased the assets of Brookings Arms Manufacturers, the maker of that particular action. Similar in appearance to the Hagn but not the same.

I saw several of these at the S.C.I. show in Jan. My first impression was that it looked a lot like a Hagn as well.
I'm a sucker for high grade falling blocks so the desire was there for one right off the git go.
I'll probably be able to hold this dream off by getting one of the 9.3x64 #1's unless I hit the lottery then my order will go in the next day.

Been hearing a lot of the falling quality of the Searcy Double Rifles.

I wonder if he is over extended and unable to keep the quality. up?

Mickey1,

this is the absolute first I have heard of this quality issue? Who told you this? Since he limits production it would seem Verrrrrry unlikely!!

I looked them over very carefully at SCI and I was impressed indeed with the workmanship and overall rifle. I was strongly considering one of them, I think it was a .404 Jefferys, but Tom Sellack bought it out from under me, sooo I have one of Butch's guns with two barrels coming in 450-400-3". I really like his new double with the smaller action.

When I saw the photos posted by 577 of the rifle in the white, I could not beleive my eyes. Take a look at my completed 9.3x74R stalking rifle that Butch delivered to me a few years back!

Steve, the real thing, Come on. At half the price also. I'm not trying to compete with Martini and Hagn. Just offering a another option. I haven't heard you raise hell about all the guys that copied the Mauser. Your dedication to Martini and Hagn is commendable. I personally hold both men in the highest regard. And if this is looked as competition, oh well, I don't see me hurting either one.

Hi Butch.

Are all of your actions the same size or do you have different sizes. I am looking for a trim action for a .280 Remington stalking rifle.

Dave, there all one size but there's enough metal on the side to trim the weight down allot. I've made a couple of 7.5 lb. 375's and a 6.5 lb. 7mm Mauser. I'm also conferring with a guy to get some composit stocks made for the SS actions.
On another note, I have discarded all the previous owners parts. I felt I had the ability to do much better manufactureing. As an example he cut the barrel thread in the action with a tape and broached the breach block channel with a home made afair. I cut the thread on a CNC mill and wire EDM the channel for the breach block. I also changed the mainspring angle to increase the locktime and make for harder hammer fall.

I commend Mr. Searcy for making these single shot rifles, my thoughts are they are probably not the same fit and finish as a Hagn but for the everyday average man the price is not bad and I think alot of the smaller named gunsmiths/makers get full of themselves with there prices and waiting lists. The only downfall of these actions I can see is there not big enough for the 600 Nitro.

I guess there are a few things I do not understand here. Somehow, I do not think my $9000 Searcy stalking rifle is usually carried by "the average everyday man". I have never seen another in the field or at the range even though I know they exist. My (sarcastic)opinion is that the Searcy rifle is a few steps above a Ruger #1. Secondly, the fit and finish on my Searcy is second to none. I could pay more money for more engraving - I will give you that. I would be hard pressed to find a nicer piece of wood however. IMHO

Makes one wonder how it would look with the side panels milled out ala the Sharps Borchardt and scrimshawed Ivory inserts...?
