Good gentlemen. Would changing the barrel on a Holland & Holland takedown (Mauser-action) be a too big or too serious undertaking? Is it something that should not be done by anyone else than H&H?

I am not familiar with take downs at all.

The rifle in question is a 25-06 to be changed to something more useful for big game. Its not in my possession.

Hi Boha

I have done this kind of work in the past. It's not that difficult. I no longer work on bolt actions for a living, but I'd like to see the gun, or some pictures. I find such things interesting. Are you coming to the united States in the future?
What caliber would you like a second barrel for?

how is the takedown designed?

I have seen some H&H with "wood takedown". That will not affect the barrel. The system has a longer reciver tang that locks into the rear of the reciver. The action is held in the stock by the front action sqrew. I guess it wouldn't be much trouble for a competent gunsmith. I think, I have seen this rifle

Some of the H&H rifle I have seen had aluminium floorplates. Not so classic

Cheers

I do not know what it looks like. The rifle is in your country, so there is a good chance that you have seen it; there should not be that many take down H&H 25-06 available over there in folkhemmet. Please tell me about it so I can continue to contemplate what to sell to finance the thing.

Bchsenschmied, I would make it into a larger bore rifle on the 06 or 62mm case; possibly 9,3x62, so the feeding wouldnt have to be altered that much.
