I am in the process of completing an FN Mauser 98 ( Columbian model 50?)in 30-06 and would like some input on the preferred after-market trigger. I am planning on using a Buhler safety. Is the Timney or Optima the better? Thanks for your response.

If you can find one the Blackburn is arguably the best aftermarket 98 trigger..........DJ

Timney IMO is a superb trigger and it's reasonably priced and easy to install.....
I love them.

For the price, ease of istallation, and a very good trigger, Timneys are hard to beat.

“Preferred Trigger?â€

Personally, I liked the first one that Roy had in his early movies better than the one on the TV show. Much better conformation and gate! Smiler

The Blackburn trigger is great, but for the extra bucks it is not worth it over the Timney. While you are at it, don't stick with the Buehler safety, put on a 2 position or new 3 position one.

IMHO Timney is the best value for the money. Don't care for the bold triggers because their riveted together. How precise can that be?

DITTO what Jim said a new 3 position (Dakota)safety is the BEST way to go. Not cheap but you will NEVER regret spending the extra bucks in the long run.

A Timney Trigger and a Dayton Traister 1-piece safety makes for a pretty gun.

I don't like the Buehler because I don't trust a tiny #2 screw holding it together.

clapAnother vote for the Timney as long as the pins are peened or lightly lock tited. thumbroger

I put a Kipplinger Match trigger and a Chapman safety on my 98 in 6.5-06. Seems to work fine after adjustment and the quality of pull hasn't changed.
