I have a two piece stock with a chuck missing from the butt stock. The missing piece is on top, where the buttstock meets the receiver. The missing piece is approximately .5" wide X 0.75" long X 0.25" deep.

Any recommendations on how to repair / fill this void are appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Here is a picture of the actual carnage. I guess it is more 1/2" square by 0.25" deep.

Anyone with any additional ideas, it is appreciated.

BTT,

Any ideas. I really would like to repair the stock without removing it if possible. I am lazy, and it is also a b.tch to remove.

Thanks,
Scott

Scott,
What is the piece of wood that is there cross ways to the grain. It looks like it was installed for a reason or was it a different patch. You will have to remove the stock to do it properly. You will have to sand it to get it to the proper shape and you will not do that in the metal.

It is also, very difficult to do this without it being "visible". The best way is to get a piece of the same wood and I imagine that is out of the question.

You basically have to fit a piece into the cavity, glue it in and refinish.

Chic,

I believe the wafer you are referring to, is the British way to check a crack, if so, it didn't work very well . I really, really do not want to remove that buttstock. I am going to attempt to fill the void today, without removing the stock from the rifle.

I appreciate everyone's comments and help.
